Racing & Award Categories

Category Composition

Social and Hospital Crews may have: 

• no more than 4 paddlers who are current members of any dragon boat club

Corporate Crews must have:

• a minimum of 16 employees of the organisation
• no more than 4 paddlers who are current members of any dragon boat club

Sweeps and drummers are provided for social, corporate and hospital crews.

• team members must show their DAA paddle IDs on race day
• all paddlers, sweep and drummer must be breast cancer survivors and be current members of a Dragons Abreast club

Dragons Abreast Sweeps and Drummers can be provided if requested no later than one month prior to Race Day.  Invited guest breast cancer survivor teams must contact Dragons Abreast Australia prior to registration to arrange temporary membership to be allowed to compete.

Gender Composition

Mixed Crews:

• maximum of 10 male paddlers

Women’s Crews:

• must consist of all female paddlers and advise they will be an all-female crew no later than one week prior to race day so we can know which teams are racing for Fastest Female.  The winner of Fastest Female is determined by time and teams do not race separately.

The drummer and sweep do not count toward the gender composition of crews. 

Age Restrictions

Paddlers may not be under 12 years of age.  Paddlers under 18 years of age require the written consent of their parent or guardian. 

Racing and other Awards

Social Teams: 1st, 2nd and 3rd place Trophy plus place medals

Corporate Teams: 1st, 2nd and 3rd place Trophy plus place medals

Hospital Teams: 1st, 2nd and 3rd place Trophy, place medals.  All Hospital Challenge Team participants will receive participation medals.

Fastest Female Team: Trophy and medals

Highest Fundraiser: Highest Fundraiser Shield to be held by winning team for one year plus Trophy to keep.  2nd and 3rd place Trophies.

Best Dressed: 1st, 2nd and 3rd place Rosettes for the winning Fancy Dressed Teams

The Wooden Paddle Award: For the team with “most generous” time
